What is Mud Fever?
Mud Fever is not one condition but a collection of clinical signs linked to a number of different causes. It is particularly evident during the wet, winter months. Mud fever is also known as pastern dermatitis, dew poisoning, greasy heel or, in the USA, scratches.
Mud Fever is common, but not just limited to horses’ legs after being stood in muddy ground. It appears in many forms, for example, on a horse’s back it is known as Rain Scald.
